Link Up Idaho and the Idaho Office of Broadband are thrilled to introduce Broadband 101, a groundbreaking statewide initiative and event series aimed at bringing high-speed internet access to every corner of our beautiful state.

Broadband 101 is here to educate attendees about the benefits of high-speed internet, but also to hear the thoughts and ideas on how we can improve broadband expansion in your area.

In today’s digitally-driven world, high-speed internet has become an indispensable tool for education, healthcare, business, public safety, and daily communication. Broadband 101 will explain the benefits that high-speed internet can bring to your community, including:

  • Economic Growth
  • Telemedicine and Healthcare
  • Improved Communication
  • Public Safety
  • Enhanced Education

Obtaining funding for broadband projects in your rural community might seem overwhelming, but Broadband 101 is here to help guide you through the process. We will provide information on available funding options, grants, and support to make your community’s broadband dreams a reality.

We believe that the best solutions come from those who experience the challenges firsthand—YOU! We want to hear your thoughts and priorities on broadband expansion in your community. Your feedback will shape our future policies and initiatives to ensure that no one in Idaho is left behind in the digital age. Some ideas for engaging your community include:

  • Community Meetings: Participate in our interactive community meetings where you can share your experiences, concerns, and ideas about broadband expansion.
  • Online Surveys: For those unable to attend in person, we offer online surveys to gather your valuable input conveniently.
  • Broadband Action Teams: Join or create local task forces to drive broadband initiatives within your community, working in collaboration with Broadband 101.

We would like to ask you to join us at Broadband 101, and together, let’s unlock the immense potential of high-speed internet for all Idahoans.

HUD MAKES $2 MILLION IN FUNDING AVAILABLE TO SMALL COMMUNITIES THROUGH MAIN STREET PROGRAM
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) of $2 million through the HOPE VI Main Street Program. This grant program provides assistance to communities looking to create affordable housing in central business districts (Main Street areas) that are undergoing redevelopment. HUD is looking to target Main Street areas in cities with this funding opportunity.
“HUD recognizes that cities are in need of revitalization across the country,” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “We want to support city governments in their efforts to restore economically crucial business districts by providing housing in these areas.”
The main program objectives are to:
  1. Redevelop Main Street areas
  2. Preserve historic or traditional Main Street area properties by replacing unused commercial space in buildings with affordable housing units
  3. Enhance economic development efforts in Main Street areas
  4. Provide affordable housing in Main Street areas
Eligible applicants are limited to Units of General Local Governments with a population of 50,000 or less and 100 or fewer public housing units within its jurisdiction.

Last Chance! The application deadline is on 10/12/2023.
